How Can I Reduce Garbage?

There are a number of ways you can reduce garbage. Remember, the less garbage, the less items that need to be recycled!

Here is a list of some of the things you can do to reduce garbage:
  • Use a reusable lunch bag or box, you won't need to throw away a paper bag everyday!
  • When you make a purchase, don't take a bag unless you absolutely need one.
  • Rent things you use infrequently instead of purchasing them.
  • Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins.
  • Use a sponge or cloth instead of paper towels.
  • Look for items that use little or no packaging.
  • Use reusable plastic containers for food instead of plastic bags.
  • Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones.
  • Read books, magazines, and newspapers at the library instead of purchasing them.
  • Use plates, cups, and utensils that can be washed instead of ones you throw away.
  • Purchase items like juice and detergent in concentrate when possible.
  • Avoid buying foods in single serving packages.

come on everybody.Reduce,Reuse,and RECYCLE!

when you go somewhere, and a company is giving out free pens, refuse it.
Its as simple as that.

Schools are horrible at reduce, reuse, recycle. In the mornings, they have breakfast, its in a box, and everything inside is in wrappers too. At lunch, there's sub sandwiches, wrapped in waaaay more plastic than needed. And they don't have garbage cans, they have recycling bins, that they put garbage in too! I don't believe my school recycles, even though they say they do. because there's gum, tissues, plastic, food, drinks, and everything imaginable inside those bins!!

If you do use plastic water bottles, reuse them. Fill them back up. Dont throw them away after one use.

Health wise thats not good. Plastic releases toxins, and some believe it could cause serious health issues. I don't see the big deal in using them, as long as you recycle them!

Plastic Zip Lock Bags

My sister insists on buying these. I told her fine, as long as she brings them home, so I can then wash them in hot soapy water, and reuse them. You would not believe how long a box of these bags can last in our house, plus we enjoy the freshness of the zip lock tops.

i do this too but then people are like why do you do that and i say i am trying to save the earth and they are like well that's not going to do much and well technically i just tell them one person can make a difference but they don't believe me=)

i believe we all should recycle me personally i do not recycle

Paper in the workplace

Before throwing away printed paper handouts, turn them over and use them for notes and memos instead of a writing pad. That way the sheet of paper will get used twice, then you can drop it in the recycling bin when you're done.

Consume Less!

I think we buy a lot more stuff than we really need. So if you really want to help reduce the amount of garbage in our landfills than buy less stuff!
